Anna Glodek

Artist statement:

I am fascinated with color, texture and movement. I like painting human form and flower compositions in watercolor and oil.

Watercolor allows me to be contemplative, careful and reckless at the same time. I like the softness and quietness of creating an image with transparent veils of color, especially in painting figures. Random patterns created by flowing paint add certain roughness to the image, contrasting with the poetry of the pose.

My imaginary florals come out spontaneously, without posing, bursting with color. Whenever I look at flowers, I see a dance of petals folding into each other, movement of opening or closing. Capturing that sense of movement becomes a dance of its own.

The surface of my oils is highly textured due to thick application of paint and multiple layers of paint. I like using palette knife to move paint around. It is especially satisfying on naturally irregular pure linen canvas.
