Drawing and creating objects are amongst my earliest memories. My childhood
was spent on a farm and I found that the quiet rural environment gave me
time to observe and learn through visual experience. Throughout my youth, my
parents encouraged me to draw and create and, these activities led me to a
fine arts-based secondary education, followed by full-time art school at
Goldsmiths College School of Art (University of London).
Having graduated from art school in 1982, I embarked on a career in graphic
design and have for 22 years run a design studio in Washington, DC,
specializing in publication and book design.
Since embarking on a career in design, I have always kept a hand in drawing
and, in recent years, painting.
I have focused my career and interests in creative work and approach
painting with an enthusiasm for exploring and learning. I particularly enjoy
working with scenes and compositions inspired by the small, often overlooked
events in everyday life.
